Lucknow: Stressing the need to safeguard the rights, dignity, and welfare of workers across the state, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued comprehensive directives to ensure strict compliance with labour laws in all industrial units.
During a high-level review meeting held late Saturday evening, the Chief Minister took serious note of emerging discontent among workers in certain industrial areas and recent protests. He instructed all industrial development authorities to establish direct communication with industrial bodies, representatives, and unit managements within the next 24 hours, emphasizing dialogue as the primary tool for resolving grievances.
Adityanath underscored that every worker must receive a respectful and timely wage, with additional compensation provided for overtime work as per regulations. He reiterated that ensuring a safe and humane working environment is non-negotiable. Basic amenities such as clean drinking water, sanitation facilities, rest areas, healthcare services, and necessary safety equipment must be mandatorily provided by all industrial establishments.
Highlighting the importance of regulatory compliance, the Chief Minister directed authorities to enforce norms related to working hours, ensure the safety of women workers, and facilitate access to social security schemes. He also called for the establishment of an effective grievance redressal mechanism that is timely, transparent, and sensitive to workers’ concerns.
The Chief Minister instructed the Labour Department to work in close coordination with local administration to maintain continuous engagement with industrial units—large, medium, and small alike. He stressed that proactive communication would help resolve issues at an early stage and prevent escalation into unrest.
Adityanath also cautioned against the involvement of external elements posing as worker representatives to disrupt industrial harmony. He directed officials to ensure that only genuine workers participate in discussions, and to identify and isolate any such disruptive forces. Authorities have been asked to establish direct channels of communication with workers to maintain transparency and trust.
Raising security concerns, the Chief Minister warned that attempts could be made to revive dormant extremist ideologies such as Naxalism under the guise of labour unrest. He urged heightened vigilance in industrial zones and activation of intelligence mechanisms to monitor and curb any provocative or destabilizing activities. Strict action has been mandated against individuals or groups found attempting to incite unrest.
Special instructions have been issued to district magistrates of key industrial hubs including Noida, Ghaziabad, Kanpur, Meerut, Firozabad, Moradabad, Varanasi, and Gorakhpur, along with officials of key industrial authorities such as the Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA), Noida, Greater Noida, and the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority, to remain particularly alert.
The meeting was attended by Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Nandi, MSME Minister Rakesh Sachan, and Labour and Employment Minister Anil Rajbhar, among other senior officials.
The directives come as part of the state government’s broader push to ensure industrial growth aligns with workers’ welfare, reinforcing that economic development must go hand in hand with social justice and labour dignity.
